HOW TO CLEAN KITCHEN SINK NATURALLY

The kitchen sink gets used significantly in one single day. Learn how to clean your sink naturally to keep it shining and feeling clean all day, every day.

I have included some affiliate links in this post of products that I have used. If you use any of these links to buy something, I may make a small commission.

I don’t know about you, but I feel like I spend half my day at the kitchen sink.

We do the dishes daily, but often times forget about the actual sink. Trust me, it can harbor some pretty nasty smells and green things. I may or may not be speaking from experience…

HOW OFTEN DO YOU NEED TO CLEAN YOUR KITCHEN SINK?

This is a great question. I have heard daily, once a week, and even once a month. As a busy mom, there is no way I can (or maybe I just don’t want to) make the time to clean my sink every day.

With our stage of life and my current amount of time, I feel like cleaning my sink once a week is right for me.

After 5 or 6 days it starts looking like it needs some TLC, which is perfect because I like to see a difference when I clean.

I can honestly say I do enjoy cleaning my sink because there is a noticeable difference in the before and after.

HOW TO CLEAN KITCHEN SINK NATURALLY?

I try to use natural cleaning products because they are cheaper and much healthier than store-bought cleaning supplies that are filled with toxic chemicals.

Besides, you probably have most of these items in your house already!

MATERIALS:

  • Dish soap (I normally stock up on whatever is on sale, but I think Dawn is the best. Buy it in bulk like this to save money!)
  • Brush or sponge (This kit comes with some great brushes to use for your sink and shower.)
  • Baking soda (I ALWAYS buy in bulk, but normally just off brand.)
  • Lemon essential oil (optional, I use this kind)
  • Vinegar (optional)
  • Gloves (optional)
  • Toothbrush (optional)

STEP 1 – EMPTY SINK & PRE-RINSE

Take a minute to make sure EVERYTHING is out of the kitchen sink basin.

Rinse down the sides and bottom to try to remove any particles of food there. If you have a sprayer on your faucet, use that.

STEP 2- SPRINKLE WITH BAKING SODA

Sprink the basin with baking soda. I have never measured, but roughly ½ cup.

Lemon essential oil is not required, but brings a beautiful scent to your kitchen and is a great aide in cleaning. You can drop a few drops on the sprinkled baking soda, or mix it with the baking soda before sprinkling.

TIP- I keep a mason jar of baking soda and lemon oil already mixed up so I can quickly grab it, sprinkle, and start cleaning!

STEP 3- DRIZZLE WITH DISH SOAP

Take your bottle of soap and drizzle a few squirts over the baking soda.

STEP 4- SCRUB WITH BRUSH

Start on the sides and work your way down. Make sure you focus on hard to reach places, like the corners, around the garbage disposal, and where the faucet meets the sink.

If you have a garage disposal, make sure you scrub the sides of the flaps and underneath of them too. I like to use the brush in this kit to get those tricky places. You can also you an old toothbrush.

You will see that using vinegar is an optional step. I do it sometimes when I have time and am in the cleaning zone, BUT that is not very often.

Here is a picture of the baking soda and vinegar bubbling and working its cleaning magic.

STEP 5- RINSE

Again, start at the top and rinse the dirt, food, grime, and bubbles away! It is always so fun to see everything get washed away and being left with a spotless kitchen sink.

Look at that beauty!

STEP 6- DRY WITH TOWEL (optional)

This step is optional. You can leave your sink to air dry, but there is something special about taking an extra minute to run a microfiber towel over it.

I also like to do this step to make sure I got everything rinsed off.

Seriously, look at how good that kitchen sink looks!

STEP 7- CLEAN FAUCET

Use your brush, sponge or a microfiber towel to wipe down the faucet, including those tiny cracks!

From start to finish, this whole process takes less than 5 minutes and I promise, you will NOT regret it.
