Tired of the same old breakfast options? Broaden your family’s horizons with the breakfast frittata.

It is a quick breakfast to throw together that the whole family will enjoy!

WHAT IS A FRITTATA?

Sometimes compared to a quiche, omelet, or egg casserole, a frittata begins cooking on the stove and then is finished baking in the oven. Using an oven safe skillet like this cast iron is great.

Believe it or not, they actually are very easy to make!

An omelet is cooked over the stove, filled with toppings, and then flipped to form a half circle. A quiche is an egg casserole that is baked in a pie shell. An egg casserole is baked in the oven without a crust. They are all similar, but the cooking method sets them apart.

INGREDIENTS IN FRITTATA

EGGS– A basic item to always have on hand.

MILK– You can use milk of your choice. I like to use cow’s milk while cooking.

MEAT– Whatever meat you have on hand you can use here. Some of our favorites are sausage, bacon, ham or a meat lovers combo!

VEGETABLES– Use what you have on hand. Fresh or frozen spinach, peppers, onions, mushrooms, etc.

POTATO– Our family is partial to the sweet potato and sausage combo. You can use any type of potato though, or omit completely.

CHEESE– You really can’t go wrong with your choice of cheese. Pepperjack, swiss, cheddar, gruyere, really any shredded cheese you have on hand would be a great compliment to these flavors. Of, you can always omit.

SPICES– Adjust these if you want, but we use ground mustard, salt, pepper, and paprika in our breakfast frittatas and have been pleased.

HOW TO MAKE A FRITTATA

1. If you are using sausage in your frittata, fry up your meat in an oven safe skillet and drain. If not, skip to step 2.

2. Saute any veggies and potatoes that are pretty firm for a few minutes to soften them up.

3. Add meat, spices, and any other veggies into skillet. Mix well.

3. In a separate bowl, crack open the eggs. Add the milk and whisk together.

4. Pour into the hot skillet and help the egg mixture get into all parts of the pan.

5. Top with cheese and bake for 10-15 minutes.
