Have you noticed an increase in prices at the grocery store due to inflation? Of course you have. One of the ways our family is trying to save money on groceries is buying cheaper products. Duh right? Let me explain.
Since I follow the 2B Mindset nutrition plan, our lunches need a protein source, vegetable, and carb. I used to buy deli meat as our quick and easy protein source, but it is about $7 a pound. Some cheaper protein sources would be tofu at $2 a container, chicken breasts around $3 a pound, and ground beef around $3 a pound. Obviously prices vary, but you get the idea.
We buy local ground beef in bulk so we always have tons in our freezer. We got really tired of doing tacos with all of our ground beef so we had to think outside the box. Here are 7 of our favorite simple ground beef recipes!
Stop wasting time meal planning!
I used to spend WAY TOO MUCH time scrolling Pinterest trying to find “what to make for supper” on a daily basis. After realizing there had to be a better way, I created a system that has helped many women get organized in their meal planning. Grab my free e-book today to steal all of my secrets!
Do I have to use ground beef?
Nope, you could use any ground meat, such as ground turkey, chicken or pork. Like I mentioned earlier, we buy local ground beef in bulk so that is what works for us.
Tips for making ground beef
If you are using frozen meat, be sure to pull it out of the freezer and place in the refrigerator 24 hours in advance so it can have time to thaw.
Here at Living Practically, I like sharing tips and tricks to cut back on dishes cause ain’t nobody like to do dishes. When I fry up ground beef, I cook it well in the skillet and then place it in a colander that is on top of a bowl lined with aluminum foil. I explain more in detail here. I think it is by far the best way to drain ground beef!
Fry up your ground beef, drain really well, put one pound into a freezer bag, and then stick it in the freezer. I like to do this with a 5 pound ground beef package. Next time you need a pound of ground beef for a recipe, all you need to do is pull it out of the freezer and you are good to go!
