INGREDIENTS IN CARAMEL SAUCE
Since I like to only go grocery shopping 1-2 times a month, I try to have a stockpile of basic ingredients I use frequently. You probably have all of these on hand too.
- Brown sugar
- Salted butter
- Light corn syrup
- Vanilla
- Sweetened condensed milk

This caramel sauce is DE-LICIOUS and takes less than 20 minutes to make from scratch. It only uses one pan so a very easy clean up! There really isn’t a reason not to make it.
HOW TO MAKE CARAMEL SAUCE
- Melt butter over medium heat.
- Add brown sugar, corn syrup, and sweetened milk. Stir to combine together.
- Stir constantly until it comes to a slight boil.
- Remove from heat and add vanilla. Stir.
- Serve warm.

There there are so many uses for this homemade caramel sauce. It makes a great dip for apples and pretzels. It’s great on ice cream, in a shake, on a cake, drizzled on apple crisp, homemade pancakes, cheesecake, or even in your iced coffee!
DO I NEED A CANDY THERMOMETER?
No, you don’t need a candy thermometer to make this caramel sauce. Here at Living Practically, I like to do everything easy and practical.
This recipe is going to give you a wonderful homemade caramel sauce without the complication of making candy, and using a candy thermometer.
STORING HOMEMADE SAUCE
You can store this caramel sauce for 3-4 weeks in the refrigerator and a few months in the freezer. It does harden in the fridge, so you will need to let sit out at room temperature or reheat either on the stove or in the microwave.
CAN I BUY CARAMEL SAUCE AT THE STORE?
Technically you can buy caramel at the grocery store, but I do not recommend it. Homemade caramel sauce is SO much better than store bought.
As a mom of two boys under two, running to the grocery store is not easy, and definitely not just a quick trip.
Whipping up a batch of this is so easy and fast, and even quicker than a trip to the grocery store.
Running to the grocery store for a container of caramel dip is not a necessity, and I can almost guarantee you’ll buy more than just one thing. Save money and time by just making your own.
No Fail Caramel Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 stick 1/2 cup salted butter
- 1 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 3/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1 can 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
