HEALTHY BURGER BOWL (AKA Cheeseburger Salad)

This healthy burger bowl (aka cheeseburger salad) is so delicious and a fun twist to a boring old salad! They are a great low carb meal that is perfect for meal prep!

Some people call this recipe a Cheeseburger Salad, but I just can’t. I can’t do it.

It is so hard for me to wrap my head around it and quite frankly I think it sounds DISGUSTING.

My mom had tried a recipe for a cheeseburger salad a few years ago and I laughed at her. She told me the dressing was made out of ketchup and mayo and I think I threw up a little. (I am being WAY dramatic, but you get the picture, it did NOT sound the least bit appealing!

Fast forward a few years and here I am telling you to go a try it. They seriously are so good and such a fun twist on a boring old salad!

  

To ease my mind though, I call it a healthy burger bowl. Not only does it sound more sophisticated, it also sounds SO much more appetizing.

I tweaked a few recipes and discovered this recipe that is delicious while sticking to the Living Practical standard of easy, healthy, and delicious! 

WHY I LOVE A HEALTHY BURGER BOWL

THEY ARE SO STINKING UNIQUE. I have had TONS of salads in my life, but none like these healthy burger bowls. If you are tired of the same old salads, you have to give this one a try!

LOW CARB. I don’t count carbs really, but I try to minimize the carbs I eat in the evening. This is a great recipe for a quick lunch

USE ITEMS YOU HAVE ON HAND. If you don’t have bacon, no problem, just skip it. If you want to add black olives, go for it! Adding and omitting ingredients won’t change this recipe that much.

IT IS A GREAT MEAL PREP OPTION. If you are new here, you need to know that I am a huge fan of meal prepping. It rarely looks like the pretty Pinterest pictures, but preparing fresh ingredients, frozen items, and complete meals saves so much time and stress. This recipe is perfect to meal prep. I recommend storing the ground beef in glass containers like these and the lettuce, toppings, and dressing in another container. When ready to eat, microwave 1/4 of the meat mixture and add to the other container.  

INGREDIENTS IN BURGER BOWL

  • ground beef or ground turkey
  • lettuce (romaine is a great option)
  • toppings of choice (onions, tomatoes, pickles, banana peppers)
  • bacon or turkey bacon, cooked
  • cheddar cheese, shredded

INGREDIENTS IN SECRET SAUCE

  • mayo
  • ketchup
  • pickle relish
  • salt
  • pepper
